We liked – The very useful third rack, how quiet the dishwasher is and the fact that there is no heating element means you don’t need to avoid putting plastic and other delicate dishes on the bottom rack.

We didn’t like – Remembering to empty and clean out the filter often is very important if you want to avoid the unpleasant odor of food waste from occupying your kitchen.

The bottom line – The Bosch 500 Series offers outstanding features, does a fantastic job of getting your dishes clean, is very reliable and looks amazing. If you’re renovating an old kitchen or looking to replace an old dishwasher you should consider the Bosch 500 series. They all offer great performance and are available in multiple door styles and colors. Because there are no visible logos or other branding marks on the front of the dishwasher, they will also blend in nicely with your other appliances. Every time you run a cycle of dishes you’ll know by the silence that it’s a Bosch.

Our family had a couple of very important considerations when it was time to select the right dishwasher. First, it had to run quietly. No one in our household wanted a newly remodeled kitchen with noisy appliances. Second, it had to blend in with our other appliances and cabinets. The Bosch 500 series nailed it on both accounts.

This dishwasher is so quiet that it is equipped with what Bosch calls an InfoLight. The light is projected cleverly onto the surface of the floor and glows bright red when the dishwasher is in use so that you don’t accidentally open the door while the dishwasher is running. You might be asking how necessary that is, could the dishwasher really be that quiet? The answer is a resounding yes. Before we grew accustomed to that InfoLight we opened the door to the dishwasher mid cycle on more than one occasion. It’s really that quiet.

The Bosch model we selected placed the control panel atop the door. With the door closed all the buttons are neatly tucked under our counter top.

All Bosch 500 Series dishwashers including ours use a filtration system and evaporative drying. Which means that from time to time you’ll need to clean out the dishwasher’s filter.  The good news is that when it is time to place dishes on the racks, you don’t have to be concerned about what you place on the lower rack as there is no heating element below the bottom rack to melt your plastic food containers, cups, and lids. You’ll never again open the dishwasher after a cleaning cycle and be greeted with the smell of burnt and melting plastic.

Our Bosch 500 Series dishwasher also came outfitted with a very unique third rack. This is the top-most rack in the dishwasher. You can neatly place knives and other small items on this rack. We noticed that  items on this upper rack also seem to dry incredibly well.

It wouldn’t be fair to omit the middle rack on the Bosch 500 Series dishwashers. This rack also has a very helpful feature. It is adjustable on both sides. Meaning if you have a large dish on the lower rack, you can raise and lower one side of the middle rack or both sides if necessary to accommodate larger oversized items you place on the lower rack. If, for example, you only need to raise one side of the middle rack the dishwasher can be run while the middle rack is tilted unevenly without incident.
